Dear friends,

my exam results are out, I am happy with them, all grade 6 (out of
max. 7). I recalled a wonderful gatha I learned many years ago in
Singapore Polytechnic, and asked a friend to send me a copy. Out of
my expectations, he sent me a wonderful piece of art.

Dharmacari Gatha
Verses that Protect the Truth

SABBA-PAPASSA AKARANAM
KUSALASSA UPASAMPADA
SACITTA PARIYODAPANAM
ETAM BUDDHANA SASANAM
Not to do any evil,
To cultivate the good,
To purify the mind:
This is the Teaching of the Buddhas.

DHAMMAN CARE SUCARITAM
NA TAM DUCCARITAM CARE
DHAMMACARISUKHAM SETI
ASMIN LOKE PARAMHI CA
Lead a righteous life,
Not one that is corrupt.
The Dharmafarer lives happily,
Both in this world and the next.

NA TAVATA DHAMMADHARO
YAVATA BAHU BHASATI
YO CA APPAM PI SUTVANA
DHAMMAM KAYENA PASSATI
SA VE DHAMMADHARO HOTI
YO DHAMMAM N'APPAMAJJATI
One is not versed in the Dharma,
who merely speaks much.
One who hears but little (of the Teaching),
But sees the Truth and observes it well in deed,
One is truly "versed in Dharma"
Who is not heedless of the Truth.

N'ATTHI ME SARANAM ANNAM
BUDDHO ME SARANAM VARAM
ETENA SACCA-VAJJENA
HOTU TE JAYAMANGALAM
No other refuge is there for me,
The Buddha is my Refuge supreme.
By the utterance of this Truth,
may blessed victory be yours!
