Hello listmembers,

My name is Stefan Detrez. I'm 28 years old and I'm a teacher of ethics in a
school in Antwerp, Belgium. I'm a slavist from KULeuven, Belgium, 2000. My
graduation thesis was about Buddhism in Russia, since very little
information is available both here and in Russian on the Theravada or Pali.

Since my graduation I've been dealing mostly with Theravada and having
studied Classical Sanskrit for one year, I am now studying Pali by myself,
using Warder and Johansson. With my elementary knowledge of Pali Buddhist
terminology and Sanskrit I'm able to read easy texts. Of course, I will be
asking questions about Pali philology, because its here that I hope to find
answers from people who have Pali streaming through their veins ;)

So far, I haven't been involved with translating or any philological work,
but I see it as my life goal to contribute to the study of early buddhism. I
would however be prepared to do fulltime research on the Tipitaka if that
allowed me to support me in making a living. I hope I can learn a lot from
all listmembers.

My main intrest goes to the socio-cultural conditions of the emergence of
early Buddhism, doctrinal development and the chronology of this
development.

Thank you very much,

Stefan
