Dear Venerables; Hi Group;

Dear John;

Just a passing thought - if you watch your incense burn, you might be able
to see all of it clearly.

Imagine that the incense is the latent results of the past kamma-making of
an arahant, who is that little burning point. (Humans are literally a
"chemical fire" on a slow burn using carbon and oxygen, water-cooled like a
car engine). The arahant transforms that "raw and messy stuff" (wood,
incense, heat, oxygen, etc) into something delightful and beneficial in the
world. The smoke is how the thoughts, words and actions "go out and mingle"
in the world - themselves arising, existing, unbinding.

peace from

Andy

Dear John,

JK> Can anyone tell me the subtleties of difference in

JK> nibbatti abhinibbatti"? To me they all seem to be
JK> synonymous with a general sense of "birth, becoming,
JK> rebirth".

As far as I can say,

jaati - birth
sa~njaati - production
okkanti - coming to be
nibbatti - rebirth
abhinibbatti - becoming

such list of shades of meanings is typical for definitions.

You can look up Rhys Davids and Monier-Williams dictionaries.

Metta,
Dimitry
