Civilisation began in Mesopotamia, and Baghdad Museum contained the
greatest and most valuable collection of the literature of the first
three thousand years of the world's history. The destruction of the
Baghdad Museum marks today as a day of infamy that will be felt long
after no-one remembers who Saddam Hussein and George W. Bush are. It
ranks alsongside the destruction of the ancient Great Library of
Alexandria in barbarism. Countless cuneiform tablets, archives of
ancient cities long in ruin, have been lost forever. By just
standing by and allowing it to happen, the acquiescence of the U.S.
military in allowing this priceless part of our human heritage to be
destroyed has been negligent and complicit.

Everyone should hang their head in shame and should email/contact
their political representatives immediately to object in the
strongest possible terms and urge them to take whatever steps can be
taken to mitigate this savagery.

For the Earth
