Two phonological developments in the Proto-Language phonological inventory
had far-reaching consequences:
1) for whatever reason (palatal glide[?], all ¿E became *y; and
2) all NH became *l.
In my opinion, this is a ultimate source of the laterals reconstructed for
Proto-Semitic.
