No, you're right: I'd concentrated on <ís> and apparently
had my brain turned off when I looked at <breiða>. That
still leaves apparently accusative <ís> needing an
explanation, but that turns out not to be a major problem:
one does sometimes find nominative <ís>, as in the modern
language, rather than <íss>.
