I think the concept of the pale field and mown meadow is an idea of the
perfect situation. The field was been planted months ago. Now the seed
heads have turned pale, ripe for harvesting. Plus the meadow is mowed
presumably for hay and the hay all tucked away for the winter. Most of the
hard labor is done and one can sigh and admire the result.
