and prepared his ship - that same one and chose for him (for his purpose) a crew for their strength and height, and had with him 25 men and Guðrið his wife, and they sail out to sea when they are ready, and away from land. Og er vika var af vetri þá tóku þeir land í Lýsufirði á Grænlandi í hinni
vestri byggð. Þorsteinn leitaði þeim um vistir og fékk vistir öllum hásetum sínum.
And (with the passing) of a week of Winter they landed in Lysafirth in the Western Settlement of Greenland. Thorstein tried to get them lodgings and got lodgings for all his Crew
En hann var vistlaus og kona hans. Nú voru þau eftir að skipi tvö

But he and his wife were without a Home (Vistlaus ? - Homeless)
Now they were back at the ship for two nights. Then (it was at that time when) Christianity was young in Greenland.

Það var einn dag að menn komu að tjaldi þeirra snemma. Sá spurði er fyrir þeim var hvað manna væri í tjaldinu.
That was one (particular) day men came to their tent early - the foremost of them(he who stood before them) asked what people were in the tent
Þorsteinn svarar: "Tveir menn," segir hann, "eða hver spyr að?"
Thorsyein replies "Two of us " says he "and who's asking"
"Þorsteinn heiti eg og er eg kallaður Þorsteinn svartur. En það er erindi
mitt hingað að eg vil bjóða ykkur báðum hjónum til vistar til mín."
"Thorstein I am named and I am called Thorstein the black.
And it is my errand here that I want to invite you both, man and wife to lodge with me.
Þorsteinn kveðst vilja hafa umræði konu sinnar en hún bað hann ráða og nú játar hann þessu.
Thorstein (Eiriksson) declared he would take counsel with his wife, but she bade him decide and he now agrees to it
"Þá mun eg koma eftir ykkur á morgun með eyki því að mig skortir ekki til að veita ykkur vist en fásinni er mikið með mér að vera því að tvö erum við þar hjón því að eg er einþykkur mjög.
"Then I will come for you tomorrow (as in German - bis Morgen Frú) with a cart and because I am short of nothing to aid you lodging, and my loneliness is grear there because we are only two - husband and wife and I am very self-willed (CV)

Another (different) custom I have (different from you) and I expect it to be better than what you have (now)
Nú kom hann eftir þeim um morguninn með eyki og fóru þau með Þorsteini svarta til vistar og veitti hann þeim vel.
Now he comes for them on the next day with the cart and they went with Thorstein (Black) to stay and he helped them well
Guðríður var sköruleg kona að sjá og vitur kona og kunni vel að vera með ókunnugum mönnum.
Guðrið was a fine woman (striking in appearance) to see and wise and knew how to behave among strangers (lit people unknown)
Það var snemma vetrar að sótt kom í lið Þorsteins Eiríkssonar og önduðust þar margir förunautar.
Early that Winder sickness came to the crew of Thorstein Eiriksson and many of the fellow voyagers died there
