Thanks LN - my translation will be in - in a moment - it's only half past six - coffee first -
I saw it has a stack - (or a bin) but definitely a receptacle of some sort  - I shall want to copy
this info but just a tad later - not running a printer this early
Do you think it has any thing to do with a "potato haulm" the word seems similar - that is
AFAIK a stack - in earth of potatoes.

Subject: [norse_course] kornhjálm af tré

'af tré' "made of wood"

'kornhjálmr'

(1) Keneva Kunz translates it "grain shelter" in this very passage [
].

(2) Johann Fritzner describes it as "a device or structure/scaffolding
for storing unthreshed corn" - [...] kornhjalmr er beskrevet som
"indretning, stillads til deri at oplægge utærsket korn" (Fritzner
1973 [1867]: 'Ordbok over det gamle norske sprog', p. 331) [

(3) Wilhelm Heizmann gives it the German gloss "kornschober" -
Heizmann 1993: 'Wörterbuch der Pflanzennamen im Altwestnordischen', p.
33 [
]. Cf, Grimm 'schoben' 1.a. "von (unausgedroschenem) getreide, ein
haufen garben, besonders eine grosze aufhäufung von korn oder heu, die
rings um eine lange, starke, in die erde getriebene stange angelegt
und mit einer schicht stroh oder einem dache bedeckt wird, um auf dem
felde stehen zu bleiben, wenn man nicht scheuern genug hat, um das
korn oder heu zu bergen" (of (unthreshed) corn, a pile of sheaves,
especially a large heap of corn or hay around which a tall, sturdy
pole [poles?] is [are?] driven into the earth, and covered with a
layer of straw or a roof, so that it can stay standing out in the
field, if there isn't enough concern to bring in the corn or hay."
