Lýting og höggur með öxi í höfuð honum svo að hún stóð á hamri og kippir að sér öxinni.
And then he runs again right into the booth until he comes before/to face Lýting and hews with axe into his head so that it (she?) stood/stuck in the hammer (?) and (he) jerked out the axe
[ stuck the whole blade of the axe up to the handle and it stuck tight]
Lýtingur fellur áfram og var þegar dauður.
Lýting fell down at this quite dead (No option)
Ámundi gengur út í
búðardyrnar. Og er hann kom í þau hin sömu spor sem augu hans höfðu upp lokist þá lukust nú aftur og var hann alla ævi blindur síðan.

Síðan bauð Njáll sætt frændum Lýtings.
Then Njal offered settlement to Lýting's Kinfolk

And half the (usual) settlement fell/failed because of the cause/reason (for suing) that Amund was thought/deemed to have

Valgarður hinn grái kom þetta sumar út. Hann var þá heiðinn. Hann fór til
