I think you've all got the right idea here, but just to be sure: he's
telling her not to say anything to him unless everyone can hear. In
other words: Don't talk to him in private.

gekk það flest eftir', which is closer to MM & HP's translation "but
what she predicted often came true.")

A Modern Icelandic example:
