I see that besides the link on "giants" that I posted, there are a few
more papers that might be of intertest at that site, from the 13th
International Saga Conference, Major Theme: The Fantastic in Old Norse
/ Icelandic Literature.

In particular, Terry Gunnel's paper on elves which mentions the cult
of ancestors, but also suggests that some souces may have equated them
with the Vanir.
