Hi Grace,

It was interesting to read your translation as well, because you have interpreted

sýnisk honum nakkvat eptir, sem ármaðrinn mælti fyrir honum,
in the same way that we did in college - it seems to him (there was) something in what the steward said to him - so it will be interesting to see Haukur's view, whether both this and Alan's translation are equally acceptable.  Watch this space!

You queried "meta alt saman".  Yes, basically you were right - he will judge or value everything together, i.e. he will weigh it all up.

Kveðja,
Sarah.

Subject: Auðun part 8

Auðun goes along with Aki´s plan

Ok er hann lítr á þetta, sýnisk honum nakkvat eptir, sem ármaðrinn
And when he takes this into consideration, it seems to him something
behind?, that the steward

mælti fyrir honum, ok sættask þeir á þetta, at hann selr Áka hálft
spoke before him, and they agreed on that, that he (Auðun) sells Aki half

dýrit ok skal konungr síðan meta alt saman.  Skulu þeir fara báðir nú á
the beast and the king afterwards will estimate the whole ?.  They will
go together now to

fund konungs, og svá gøra þeir; fara nú báðir á fund konungs ok stóðu
the meeting with the king and so they do; both now go to the meeting
with the king (lit. king's meeting) and stand

fyrir borðinu.
before the table.

Thanks Sarah!  Happy New Year!
Grace
