Hi Patricia!

You did a grand job - remember some of us have been working away at this for some time now :-)

I think that "villtu... " as in
Villtu selja oss dýrit
conveys more of a sense of volition in Old Norse than the English "will you".  Perhaps, "do you want to" would be better.

ok mun þat réttara
mun - verb, singular present of munu: will
réttara is the comparative of rétt - literally, more right (or more just)

Hvárt er - interrogative pronoun (literally: whether is) i.e. can it be

at þú ert maðr svá óvitr
that you are a man so unwise/ignorant

at þú hefir eigi heyrt ófrið þann er
that you have not heard of that hostility which

er í milli er landa þessa
is between these lands

eða ætlar þú giptu þína svá mikla
or do you consider your good fortune so great

at þú munir þar komask með gørsimar
that you will arrive there with treasures
[I like Alan's rendering - that you will make your way there with treasures]

er aðrir fá eigi komizk klakklaust
when others don't manage to arrive unharmed

þó at nauðsyn eigi til?"
even though necessity obliges them to (go).

Hope this helps.  You're doing really well and it'll be so much easier once your books arrive.

Cheers,
Sarah.

This is getting a bit more difficult.
I shall do my best Sarah, says Patricia, originalpatricia@...
Konungr mælti: "Villtu selja oss dýrit við slíku verði sem þú keyptir?"  Hann svarar:
King asked wilt thou sell this animal for the worth that thou bought    he nswered
The king asked him Will you sell me this bear for the same price you paid " he replied
"Eigi vil ek þat, herra."  "Villtu þá," segir konungr, "at ek gefa þér tvau verð slík? ok
"Not will I that, Lord"  Wilt thou then said King  that I give thee two times like, and
"I will not do that Lord" "Would you have me pay twice the price and
mun þat réttara, ef þú hefir þar við gefit alla þína eigu."  "Eigi vil ek þat, herra",
(mun) that (rettara)  if thou hadst given for it all thy wealth "I will not that Lord"
( ?   ) that  means? if you had given all your wealth for it " "I will not Lord"
segir hann.  Konungr mælti: "Villtu gefa mér þá?"  Hann svarar, "Eigi, herra."
said he   King asked   "Will you give it to me"   He answered "no Lord"
he said , The King asked "Will you give it to me" he answered "No Lord
Konungr mælti: "Hvat villtu þá af gøra?"  Hann svarar:  "Fara," segir hann, "til
King asked "What wilt thou then (  ) to do He answered "Travel" said he to
The King asked "What then, will you do"  He Answered "Travel " said he to
Denmerkr ok gefa Sveini konungi."  Haraldr konungr segir, "Hvárt er, at þú ert maðr
Denmark  and give Swein King"  "Harald King said "What art thou as a man
Denmark and give it to King Swein  King Harald said" What sort of man are you
svá óvitr at þú hefir eigi heyrt ófrið þann er í milli er landa þessa, eða ætlar þú giptu
so (.....) that thou had no heard of (....)   that is between these lands. Then think you luck
so you have not heard of the (enmity) that is between our Lands. Think yourself so lucky
þína svá mikla, at þú munir þar komask með gørsimar, er aðrir fá eigi komizk
(     ) so great that thou (.....) come there with treasures and will return again
(     ) so far, that you (.....) come there with treasures and may return home
klakklaust, þó at nauðsyn eigi til?"
Unharmed,   ( I had difficulty here, are there others who will rob him I will leave this for a moment
Unscathed  (- I guess here , you do not need to go )

I regret Sarah that I am not pleased with this pitiful effort, when I get my books I will do better, and I will get a print out and start to study the words on the internet, is it okay to print out copy for my own study
Blessing
Patricia

OK.  Here comes part 4!  [Hopefully without typos!]
