I am a beginner at learning Old Norse. I joined this group months back and
just began to learn, but got too busy. Now, I have the time to learn it.

I am already starting the beginners course at the hi.is website, and have
downloaded all of the lessons in this group

what I need is a good book to help me on the side, to take with me, but I've
heard mixed things about the "teach yourself Icelandic" book..

Is the "Calloquial Icelandic" guide for beginners good? Is it the same as Old
Icelandic (west norse), or is it a different form, like east norse?

Any other good written and audio tapes??

Your suggestions are very welcome, as I need help to get me off my feet
again.

I have visited Iceland before, but do not want to go back and stumble over the
same obstacles again in communicating even the simplest words and their
pronunciations.

Is there also a source online for pronouncing the Icelandic vowels? There
must be...
