I was wondering: Did you take a look at the Hymiskvi�a translation
(and commentaries) Haukur pointed out the other day? This is an
attempt by an Icelander to do more or less exactly what I think
needs to be done - an accurate (but readable) prose tranlation with
detailed commentaries, and even a critique of the extant translations.
I'm sure the English is less than perfect (which is why I suggested
a collaboration), but I think this one could serve as a model of an ideal
version for students, both the linguistically and the religiously inclined.
