Yes, a modern dictionary will be of great use to you. Comparing Old
Norse to Icelandic is the best way to learn. Also, the modern
language has untold numbers of Norse words for the many things that
have changed since the 13th century. Learning them can also be a lot
of fun. As for the old vocabulary, almost all of it is still part of
the current vocabulary, whether the usage has changed or not.
