Re "blunt end" of something, incl. the mouth-nose-snout area, I deem
two Romanian words worth mentioning: /bot/ "snout" (incl. fig.) & /bont/
"blunt". /Bont/ also means "stump" (esp. in medicine, cf. amputation,
resection).
In idiomatic Rumanian, a boot and a hill(ock) also have a /bot/, i.e. a
"snout", as a synonym for the more frequently used words /culme, pisc,
mägurä, vârf, cioacä/; but these usually don't have the connotation
"rounded; without edges".
Linguists aren't sure of their etymology. Both words, in their semantics,
have links to the main ideas: "bluntness" (i.e. without point, peak; cut
off etc.); "lump; ball". Esp. in the extention /botz/. In some dialectal
regions of the Rum. language the very word /bot/ also means "a ball-like
lump made by pressing together".
And /botz/ can also have mean something like this: "hump; bump; knob;
tubercle; tumor" - for which reason it might be related to Fr. bosse, Sp.
bozo & bozal, It. bozza.
(BTW: as of the figurative "stupid" based on T/D_M_P/B, as in Stumpf
(> stumpfsinnig), dumm + dumb, Hung. tompa, cf. Hung. /buta/ "dumb,
stupid" and Turkish /budala/ "dumb, stupid".)
