> Dear Listfolk,Dr. Henry Wales (1820-1856), of Boston, left an extremely valuable collection of books, about 1,400 in number, to the library of Harvard College. The collection comprised Sanskrit, German, and Italian literature. Dr. Wales had studied Sanskrit nearly three years, at Berlin, with German linguist Franz Bopp. By another clause of his will, Dr. Wales appropriated the sum of 40,000 dollars to be ultimately dedicated to the foundation of a Chair of Sanskrit Literature in the Harvard College.
