When I speak of Sanskrit, I speak of the polished language that is called Sanskrit today --or "Classical Sanskrit". The language of the time of the Rg Veda was Old Indian, although sometimes it is confusingly called "Vedic Sanskrit" --but it is a predecessor of Classical Sanskrit in the same way that Old Latin was a predecessor of Classical Latin. Sanskrit was spoken in some court but I'm not a linguist nor do I specialize in Indo-Aryan. Others can fill you in better. Witzel might be a place for you to start in your readings. Others on the list can give you other legitimate specialists

Does Sanskrit bear no relationship to the language used in Rg Veda?
If not what is Sanskrit derived from?

And I do ask again which kings' court did Sanskrit emerge from?
And where was this king located?
