I don't think so. Skt. sâarman 'cover, shelter, protection, refuge, safety'; sâaran.a 'protecting, defending'; a-sâa:ra 'shed, shelter'; upa:sâara âprotection'; cf. Old Averstan sar- 'shelter' â" all point to the meaning 'shelter, protection', while one would hardly say that the cream "protects" the boiling milk.
Where dod you find this etymology? The term sâaras is post-Rigvedic, and I could not trace your proposed etymology in any of the dictionaries I have access to.
