To make them look more "scientific"? There's nothing to be gained from
this kind notational pedantry. Any unambiguous convention will do,
especially for a language whose phonetics is much harder to reconstruct
than its phoneme inventory. There's nothing misleading about *dH etc.
with a superscript [h]. It isn't intended as a narrow phonetic
transcription in the first place.
