According to the "Diccionario etimològica de las palabras españolas de orìgen oriental" (on the Internet Archive), which discusses non-castilian words as well, the portuguese word "buraco" would come from (old) Arabic برجة , translated as "foramen" in Latin, i.e. "(bore)hole"
