The Lugii war on the Regnum Vannianum would be relevant. Since the cause was resentment (or greed?) because of the sums Vannius had collected by taxes on trade, we might guess there was North-South trade across the Quadi state.

It's German name March might have given the

their name (if they lived here also before their partication in Ariovistus' campaign in Gaul, otherwise the naming might have been the other way round), which might indicate that it was a main trade artery for that people? The Morava joins the Danube just a few km down river from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnuntum ,
according to Google maps. It meets the
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moravian_Gate
at Olomouc/Olmütz. I think we have a winner.
