Portuguese ending - a~es / -o~es in toponymics usually imply Gothic genitive of n-ending, *Wimara, *Wimarans, through Latinized *Vimaranis.

Does he say where <Wigmera> (or oblique <Wigmeran>) is
attested? Piel & Kremer, Hispano-gotisches Namenbuch, show
no forms with the <g>. Morlet has an instance of <Wigmarus>
a.800 from the cartulary of the abbey of Saint Bertin, but
that's way up in northern France. She also has <Wichmar>
1080, but again it's in the north, somewhere on the lower
Rhine.
