Re: Germanic - maran/Gothic -mara

Guimarães, as widely noticed, is the homologous of the well-known
Catalan toponym (and family name) Guimerà. For that, consult Joan
Coromines' Onomasticon Cataloniae vol. IV pages 402 and 403. The article
must be read complete, but I note that Coromines says it comes from an
(attested) Wigmera(n) (from Germanic *wi:ga- and *mara-), a name we find
in Visigothic lands from Carcassonne as far the Atlantic. Coromines
documents the word citing, among many authors, J.J.Nunes.
