The other Mycenaean toponym mentioned by Shivraj, pu-ro ra-u-ra-ti-jo, is read as "Pulos *Lauranthios", which may mean 'the rocky part of Pylos district' according to M. Doria. This scholar proposes an etymology from a Pre-Greek noun root **laur- 'rock, stone' (cf. the name of Mount Laureion in Attica).

On the contrary, Ventris and Chadwick had read the adjective ra-u-ra-ti-jo/-ja (alternative spellings: ra-wa-ra-ti-jo/-ja) as an ethnic deriving from the place-name ra-wa-ra-ta2. They proposed to read the latter as *Laurantha(s). Thus "Pylos of the *Laurantha people"?
