A suddenly idea occurs to me: that Italic goddess Mefitis < *MedHwa:-, the mare goddess of intoxication and nightmares, cf. Demeter Erinys, Saranyu, Madhavi, Medb, Gorgo-Medousa, Medeia (maybe).
