Could be*-mo- an assimilation of *-mno- (cf. Latin <spu:ma>/ Germanic <faima->/Sk. <phena-> <*spH2oim-no-?), gemma < *g^embH-no-, bottom, fathom (<*fathma- < *fathmna-?)
Or a dissimilation *-nn- > *-nm-, cf. *h2enh1-no- "wind, breath" > *h2enh1-no- ?

Greek atmos < *atmnos < *atmN

Maybe Greek <dromos> "race" fit into this, if analysed as <*dRmnos < *dRmN

Assunto: [tied] Suffix -mos in nouns

What's the origin of suffix -mos in substantives? How we explain nouns like <anemos>. <kosmos>, <atmos>, <animus> ?
