Cleasby & Vigfusson, Zoëga, Fritzner, and Köbler all make it an
a-stem. In _Deutsche Mythologie_ Jakob Grimm gives a nom. pl.
<hergir>, which would make it a u-stem, but I've not found that
in any other source, and I don't know his justification. On the
other hand, Campbell says that OE <hearg> is a u-stem that's been
mostly assimilated to the a-stem declension.
