Yes and no --sometimes the upper class adopts a dialect to distinguish itself form the masses.
But when I was a young kid, I surely had a strong Appalachian accent but I got rid of the last vestiges by when I was 10 or so. Later as an adult living on the West Coast I lost my Midwest accent and then I lived in the South and now on the East Coast and no one can place me by my accent.
But keep in mind, we all speak dialects
