Apparently Bosworth & Toller didn't draw on the OE Bede, at
least in the <botl> entry. Aha: they do show <boðle> as a

Yes, though unfortunately the first attestation isn't until
~1125 (as <Bothle>).

I suppose that it's not kosher to point to the annal 'Anno
MMII Solmonað, iii d' in Anthony Appleyard's 'The New
Anglo-Saxon Chronicle':
