How does having a crooked mouth make you a fighter, or conversely how
does being a fighter make you have a crooked mouth? And would either
association be obvious to the common folk? Another possibility is that
the "Crookedmouths" were so ugly that some of them were driven away to
the West Indies by the other clans who couldn't stand their presence,
hence the West Indian Campbells of my origin) (just to be sure, you do
realize that my statements about the "Crookedmouths" are all absurdities?)

The battles between the Macdonalds and the Campbells were over the
western highlands and over regional autonomy. The Macdonalds had
created a mini-state and the Campbells claimed to represent the crown
in its attempts to impose a unitary kingdom. But it was over who would
call the shots in the Highlands. The crown usually sat back and let
them kill each other off and moved in to pick up the pieces until it
got so out of hand they had to send in garrisons.

of power and were co-opted by the crown as one of the premier highland
regiments. But they became cannon fodder for an imperialist government
that sent them all over the world

Oh, OK, so it wasn't on account of their crooked noses that they were
exiled all over the world.
