Res: [tied] Latin adjectives -BRIS...what's the origin?

My main doubt is to know why Latin has so many i-stem adectives: brevis, gravis (i-augment for u-stems), fortis, funebris, utilis, omnis, nobilis etc. Is there any cognate in another IE language? Would this i-ending come from feminine forms?

That's right: *-es-ri- > -ebri-. Cf. *mulies- (> mulier) --> *mulies-ri-
> muliebris.
