Unfortunately, whatever you wrote got slightly mangled in
transition between your system and mine, so I had to do some
guessing; apparently I guessed wrong.

You're apparently using an interface that suppresses leading
spaces. (You're also using one that doesn't quote correctly
and doesn't insert line breaks, both of which are mildly
annoying.) I've adjusted the 'North & SW &' line to its
proper position above; with the leading quote chevron, it
should stay where it belongs this time, giving the correct
column headings of 'OE', 'North & East Midl.', 'SW & SW
Midl.', and 'SE'. (I'm a little surprised that you didn't
figure out what had happened simply on the basis of what you
know about the dialects.)--------------------Thanks for explaining. Unfortunately, your chart of vowel phoneme correspondences became reproduced exactly as before, i.e. very confusing. But from your explanation I gathered what you mean and now understand it. As for my knowledge of the dialects, it is based on university studies of 18 years ago, so I've forgotten quite a bit, especially the details, so can be easily convinced that "OE East Midl." was a ME dialect, for example. Thank you for re-educating me.I'm sorry that my system doesn't quote correctly or insert line breaks; I'm at a loss as to how to remedy this problem (although maybe I could use a different e-mail address, such as my other hotmail address; but this yahoo address is set up to receive cybalist messages). Please be patient, I have nothing else to work with.
