I surely shouldn't respond to this and thereby lend credence
to the idea that it matters where one comes from, but I just
can't help trying to defend myself.
I wasn't born in Pahrump and don't care for the town at all.
As the youngest of my siblings and without children of my
own, however, it has fallen on me to look after my elderly
parents, who could not be dissuaded from moving here about
seven years ago.
Those places I've lived and loved most were Los Alamos in New
Mexico, and San Francisco in California. So, if my beliefs
and attitudes must be understood on the basis of place, then
please let those places be the basis instead.
