But in that case, as a linguist I would like to know, how did the
people of the Kyiv culture go about building this new language,
Proto-Slavic? Did they appoint an academy to design a grammar and
construct a vocabulary from scratch, such as Arnaud has described for
the French and German languages, or did they arrive from New Guinea in
helicopters so as not to leave confusing archaeological tracks of
their migration, or perhaps some third scenario?

Well, as a linguist I would hesitate to do that, as I also would
hesitate to posit a language with no ancestors.

Hm. Wonder what George means by that. Now, 'snurre' means "whirl,
rotate" in Danish. Maybe he is trying to tell me something. Is he
secretely rooting for the helicopter option?
