You forgot to mention that Abaev gives *two* Hungarian forms: _üveg_ and
_éveg_. The latter is used, AFAIK, by Székely Hungarians (Transylvania).
I don't see any problems with deriving _éveg_ [e:vEg_0] (?) from something
like *_a:b(a)g_ ~ *_a:ß(a)g_ << Iranian *_a:paka_. Cf. Ossetic _marg_
'poison' : Hungarian _méreg_ 'ts.', both ultimately from Iranian
_mar(a)ka_ 'death'.
