'Usually'

*dHeh1-i- 'to suck' 'is analysed together'
*peh3-i- 'to drink'

by considering that a suffix -y- was added at an early stage to this
root.

(The nature of this suffix is of course disputed).

Once accepted that there is an ancient suffix -y- (doesn't matter
its origin) in the above roots:

=> if we will follow, Piotr, would result that there was 2 identical
roots :

1. *dHeh1- 'to set, to place'
2. *dHeh1- 'to suck' or <<"the origin of to suck" but "for-sure-
different" from "to set, to place">>

===> The common-sense question here is:
Why "for-sure-different" , Piotr?
