****GK: The book I had in mind was a 1989 work by O.
Tkachenko on the theory of linguistic substrates with
particular attention to the vanished Meryan idiom.
I've just checked all my bookshelves and can't find it
(not the first time this has happened, courtesy of my
meticulous housekeeper: every time I leave a book
lying around it's likely to be reinserted somewhere.
Re-emergence times vary (:=)). Some good news : I
cited this work in cybalist message n. 40562.
Unfortunately I did not include the ISBN. It's in
Russian, and as I remember has a useful bibliography
of pre-1989 works on the Merya.****
