What are the other forms in other languages? e.g.
Germanic? I'm guessing that it's from the same root as

It's not supposed to have a clear origin.
It's structurally the same thing as *dheH1
Starting with *dhoH1
and supposing H1 "solidifies"
and becomes voiced,
*dhoH1 > *dhox > dug
