Could you give me a reference? I've got the book and will check.
Kortlandt speaks of the loss of the final laryngeal, too, but he
assumes (if I read him right) *bai?i? --> *baidi?- (with *? analysed
as a hiatus-filler and replaced with *-d- used as a new hiatus-filler)
in Proto-Baltic.
