Patrick, Lituanian baidyti has a short-a inside.
So the root from where to derive this word was *bHoih- with short-o
inside.
There is no other choice.

The forms above are reconstructed by Dersken (see at Leiden the
Lithuanian Etymological Dictionary)
His derivations are quite Ok.
Please take a look there.
