I did not say I am a linguist, leave alone a good or better linguist. I am a layman, so far as linguistics is concerned.

I only meant I am much better as an intellectual or a scholar (in my own way) than some of the linguists I have interacted with.

so, the abysmally incompetent thing does not hit me...
