Did Jordanes know Gothic? Some of his own etymologies are correct
(Get. 146: ob audacia uirtutis baltha, id est audax), some are wrong
(Get. 95: nam lingua eorum pigra gepanta dicitur – linguists have been
unable so far to find any such word in Gothic). In other words, could
he recognize a Gothic word in a Greek text telling about Huns?
