A small aside from the serious discussion-
Is it true that the Egyptians knew about Bitumen, which was used in the mummification of the dead bodies? It appears there was huge market for mummies all over the Europe during 16th C. for the bitumen contents they are said to have contained.
I have read this somewhere but not made any attempt to verify either of the claims above.
