The only problem Trask had, in my opinion, was the almost religious certainty that Basque was unique as an isolate.

It's hilarious -- and extremely instructive. From a few postings by
Trask one can learn more about the use and misuse of the methods of
historical linguistics than from most handbooks. His death has taken
away not only a fine linguist but one of the most gifted popularisers of
the discipline.
