I. For me, *gHh2 + *h2ns sounds as a good hypothesis:

*gHh2- is nothing else that the onomatopeic reproduction of the
goose's sound

*h2ns - is really the word to denominate this type of bird(s)


II. We have a similar pattern in:

Albanian berr 'ram'
Romanian b^ar 'interjection used to call the sheep'
<
PAlb/Dacian? *berr-
< [rr < wr]
PIE *be 'imitation of a sheep's sound'
+ *wrh1-(e(:))n- 'lamb'

III. So the pattern:
<imitation of the animal's sound> + <animal/animal-group name>
could well belong to PIE-Times
