This word is attested in about all turcic languages
including Chuvash but not in YAkut.
Apparent etymon is : *dagu "mountain"
It is most probably a Turcic cognate word with deep roots in Turcic.
I have no etymological reference.

there is this word "dag/dagh" = mountain in turkish languages. see
Dagestan = mountain country, Nemrut Dagi in Cappadocia, and Kopet Dag
in Turkmenistan.

there was a Hittite sacred mountain Daha, where city Zippalanda was
built.

does anyone know the etymology of the word "dag" ?

pls point me to a turkish etymology dictionary at least
