I'm not sure what you mean by "*dov-". Just the treatment of *doh3-ih1-
in Itlic? I don't exclude the possibility of *-w- directly reflecting
intervocalic *-h3-, but what does it prove about the supposed behaviour

The post-laryngeal hiatus left the word disyllabic. Cf. *nah2-u-s >
nau-s. (still scanned as disyllabic in the RV). To be sure, both *-ayi-
nd *-aHi- were usually contracted in Indic, but apparently not when the
*i was accented (cf. yayí- 'quick'), just as -íya-, -úva- remain
disyllabic in the RV.
